Chomley Terraces is a building deeply connected to its place, a refined architectural response to the evolving fabric of Prahran East. Long defined by its heritage homes and charming village atmosphere, this pocket of the inner south possesses a rare character: charming yet urban, textural yet composed. Drawing from these contrasts, Chomley Terraces establishes its own identity, one that respects its context while confidently moving it forward.
It’s a language that sits comfortably within its surroundings whilst speaks with its own clarity. In this way, Chomley Terraces becomes more than a home — it becomes a new architectural layer within the story of Prahran East. Confident, composed and enduring, it’s a design that belongs not just to now, but to the future of the neighbourhood.

Carlo Scarpa’s influence lives quietly within Chomley Terraces. Not in imitation, but in philosophy. The revered Italian architect, known for his mastery of detail and poetic use of material, shaped a language of architecture that was both intuitive and exacting. It is this same spirit of rigour and restraint that underpins Chomley Terraces. Every reveal and recess has been composed with care, creating a rhythm of solids and voids.
Through a refined palette and a sculptural essence, Chomley Terraces honours Carlo Scarpa’s legacy in a uniquely local way that is filtered through a contemporary Australian lens. The result is a building that feels timeless, tactile and deeply resolved. A place where architecture isn’t simply seen, but felt — in the weight of the walls, the softness of the light and the clarity of every line. A culmination of the past, present and future.
Chomley Terraces redefines contemporary residential form with a design approach that is sculptural, enduring and effortlessly composed. The facade reads like a study in contrast and balance — where deeply set windows punctuate walls of textured brick, and bronze accents catch the changing light with subtle brilliance. The building’s rhythm is established through repetition and pause, solid and void, enclosure and release.
Natural light is a central character here, drawn into each residence through expansive glazing that creates a sense of openness and movement. Rather than dominate the streetscape, the building settles into it — rooted in its material honesty and elevated by contemporary craftsmanship. The result is a refined presence that doesn’t command attention but holds it nonetheless, establishing Chomley Terraces as a benchmark for thoughtful, lasting design in Prahran East.
Each private entryway is its own architectural moment — defined by a breezeblock screen that plays with light, shadow and air. These sculptural elements offer both privacy and permeability, softening the building’s edge while drawing the eye inward. Underfoot, textured materials ground the arrival in tactility, while dappled light animates the space throughout the day. These entrances are more than functional thresholds; they are immersive transitions where architecture, landscape and experience quietly converge.

The design of Chomley Terraces is grounded in the belief that true liveability is shaped by connection — to place, to nature and to one another. A landscaped pedestrian path weaves through the development, encouraging moments of interaction without compromising privacy. Generous courtyards, emerald outlooks and shared garden spaces foster a quiet sense of community, creating a living environment that feels open, welcoming and deeply human.

“As an office, Cera Stribley called Prahran ‘home’ for over a decade. It’s a place we know and love. One of the things I love about Prahran, in particular, is its striking interplay of old meets new. You have these grand, heritage buildings — like the gothic Prahran Arcade, and the iconic Read’s Store building — interspersed with contemporary residential buildings, and the gritty youthfulness of the people who live, work, and play there. With this in mind, we were inspired by the work of Carlo Scarpa — one of the great Italian architects of the twentieth-century — who was renowned for his ability to harmonise old and new through elegant lines and spatial sequences. We wanted to bring this modernist sensibility to life, and create a residential offering for Prahran that both respects the past and exceeds contemporary living expectations.”
“Living at Chomley Terraces will feel calm, connected, and quietly elevated. The homes are filled with natural light, cross-ventilation, and views to greenery, all of which contribute to a feeling of openness and ease. Expansive windows and private courtyards blur the boundary between inside and out, inviting nature in and offering quiet moments of respite throughout the day. At the same time, there’s a subtle sense of connection to the community. A landscaped pedestrian path weaves through the centre of the development, fostering neighbourly interaction without compromising privacy.”

The interiors of Chomley Terraces embody spatial clarity, offering spaces that feel generous, tactile, and inherently liveable. The open-plan living is not an aesthetic choice but a way of shaping experience — where daily rituals unfold across the kitchen, dining and lounge without interruption. An abundance of sunlight is harnessed through full-height glazing, illuminating material shifts and guiding natural transitions from one space to the next.
Timber, stone and brushed metals create a palette that feels grounded yet elevated, inviting interaction while retaining visual calm. Every element has been curated with the resident in mind — from the proportions of the joinery to the soft integration of storage. These are homes designed for how people live, move and connect, where functionality is expressed with refinement and the architecture serves life as much as it shapes it.

“Our vision for Chomley Terraces was to create interiors that felt like a seamless extension of the architecture. We focused on layering, proportion, and refined detailing to shape spaces that feel personal, welcoming, and grounded in the realities of modern life. As always, our process began by thinking about how people would move through and inhabit the space each day. Daily rituals guided the planning, from the relationship between kitchen, dining, and living zones, to the placement of storage that enhances rather than interrupts the visual flow. Every element was considered, not as a decorative gesture, but as part of a larger philosophy of quiet luxury. Custom joinery, soft finishes, and subtle shifts in material work together to create a home that is effortlessly liveable and deeply intentional.”
“One of my favourite features is the skylight placed above the bath in the master ensuite. It is a simple but powerful element that completely transforms the atmosphere. Bathing in natural light creates a sense of peace and connection to the natural rhythms of the day. It turns a functional space into something restorative. I also love the small bespoke moments throughout the homes, such as the built-in bar and finely detailed joinery, which introduce a sense of craftsmanship and elevate everyday living. Another feature that stands out is the bronze metal shroud at the entry. It acts as a beautiful architectural threshold, signalling the transition into a private sanctuary. What truly sets these townhomes apart, however, is their individuality. Each home feels distinct, private, and generous — more like a standalone residence than part of a traditional multi-residential development.”

Here, form serves purpose without distraction. Integrated high-end appliances ensure performance is as seamless as the design, while a stylish bar complete with a climate-controlled wine fridge introduces an elevated edge to everyday rituals. The space is curated for a modern lifestyle — morning coffee, shared meals and evening conversation — all the while maintaining a sense of refined simplicity. It’s a kitchen that belongs in a home of this calibre: intelligent, crafted and sophisticated.

The balcony becomes an architectural threshold — softening the edge between interior and landscape. Floor-to-ceiling glazing welcomes natural light from dawn to dusk, while filtered breezeblock screens offer privacy without obstruction. Views stretch across the treetops and rooftops beyond, becoming a living artwork within the bedroom. Whether bathed in morning light or illuminated by twilight, the outlook invites a deep connection to place. Calm, expansive and ever-changing.

In the adjoining ensuite, light filters through a skylight above the freestanding bath, casting a gentle glow across the stone surround and softly textured tiles. Generous rain showers sit behind clear glass, offering a moment of stillness in the flow of daily routine. A floating timber vanity with twin basins and expansive mirrored cabinetry brings warmth, refinement and functional clarity. Finely detailed fittings, natural materials and thoughtful lighting create a space that feels grounded and composed. This is a space designed for personal rituals, for moments of calm before the day begins and for quiet reflection as it comes to a close.
